XBMC is great as long as you don't want to watch netflix easily through your media center.

Also Windows Media Center does all of the above mentioned and...

Plays literally any video/audio codec you can imagine, simply install the proper codec into your machine obviously.


To be honest DoC you know I am a fan of open source and linux based projects. Sadly I am also a fan of netflix and until I can netflix on my HTPC w/linux I must say that windows+windows media center is the best option for all possibility. You should give it a shot since I know your running windows. It will still access your NAS that is already setup and configured as easily as XBMC will. But if you don't have Netflix then XBMC is obviously just as good.

Win7 gets along fine with Samba and NAS... cause umm Samba is setup to look like a windows share. All I did was map the network drive in windows and then point MCE to that. ezmoney!

I can't argue the open source solution, and it is by all means what i personally would have went with, but NETFLIX is a big concern to me.

Microsoft Corp. today announced that its board of directors has increased the size of the board from nine to 10 members and elected Reed Hastings, 46, chairman and CEO of Netflix Inc., to the board. Hastings has also been appointed to the finance committee. At the meeting, the board of directors also declared a quarterly dividend of $0.10 per share, payable June 14, 2007, to shareholders of record on May 17, 2007. Netflix very well could of and would of used Adobe Flash, rather then proprietary Silverlight. JUST LIKE THE REST OF THE FUCKING WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!

I mean if you are Netflix and you have the choice of Silverlight or Flash, both of wich work umm exactly the same, why would you choose to alienate the 10% market share that is Linux? THATS RIGHT! You wouldn't. Not unless your the CEO of netflix and can make your stock shares increase in M$ padding your own fat filthy wallet with more uneeded cash so you can take yet another cruise around the world with 20 plastic barbies on your private yaht while normal folks like us are assfucked into paying for more proprietary garbage software from M$

And to top it off lets be super smart M$ and release Moonlight the linux alternative to Silverlight so that when the Anti-Trust cops come knocking on your door you can say "HEY BUT WE ARE GIVING MOONLIGHT AWAY SO LINUX CAN USE IT TOO!". Then turn around to your shareholders and say "hehehehe stupid anti-trust cops don't realize moonlight will always be 1 version behind silverlight so it won't work on fucking netflix anyhow".

Fuck M$, Fuck Netflix, Fuck Ford and every other big company that intentionally holds back the progression of human civilization in the name of profit.
